Pocket Personal Stylist’s Origins
You know how you can have a great idea and then overthink it to death? Well, that’s what I did four years ago! Fast forward to this year. I had three quick emails/texts back-to-back with two female and one male friend asking about what to wear for their upcoming events (all different events), for which I quickly came up with answers.
The very next week, I had a “business besties” meeting followed by a check-in with a business mentor who issued a challenge after I told her about this idea that had popped back into my head. “By the time we talk for our next check-in, I want you to launch this service.” I thought she was crazy! When I hung up from our check-in, I sat for a minute and thought that if I could pull it off, It would be so cool!
My mom used to say, “nothing beats a fail but a try.” I accepted the challenge! I put pen to paper, made three phone calls to toss around how I’d execute the idea, and then sat quietly on my cork yoga mat to listen.
I had two ideas: I wanted more people to be able to afford my expertise because I had value to offer, and I wanted to keep it simple. Pocket Personal Stylist is a convenient way to access the know-how of an experienced wardrobe stylist at a price point that makes it doable for most folks who need it. In just four easy steps, you share a little information and then tell me what the need is, and – voila! – I give you an answer -or a lifeline – to be more stylish. The idea has taken off so much so, that people were signed up even before the site officially launched.
Check it out, use it, be amazed! Over the first several months, the Founding Members will see a lot of updates: I want feedback, so a questionnaire will be launched; I want to feature small businesses and newer brands, so I’ll be negotiating discounts so you can try them before they become the next-big-thing; and I want to perfect the process so each user gets what they need. I’m excited to share Pocket Personal Stylist and hope it will become the “must-have” you never knew you needed.
